Fly!2K

I’ll bet some corporate genius is sitting at home right now giggling with a giddy feeling because of this game. He shouldn’t be. Fly!2K is nearly everything a bad sequel is - exactly the same. Fly!2K is 1999’s Fly! with a fancy new "2K" bumper sticker. Other than some minor changes (e.g. bug fixes), this game is simply a clone of Fly!. Even the loading screens read Fly! instead of Fly!2K. I had to check the box twice.

The graphics in this game are barely bearable. The mountains were well done. , but the urban terrain was quite the opposite. The planes were also nicely done. My only real problems I had with graphics are that a) flying through clouds was like flying through a piece of paper and b) I could not blow up the plane! This did allow for some slick crash-landing cartwheels, though.

The gameplay was average in my mind. There was no tutorial, which I thought was necessary for this game. Fortunately, you can create your own missions. Also available is a "Fly Now" option with several missions which allow you to bypass the hassles of starting the engine, or even taking off. A "Flight Planner" allows you to plan your own flight (duh). In my opinion, Fly!- I mean Fly!2K is a game for those who were too drunk to get a pilot’s license.

Literally, what person would want to fly from Alaska to South Africa in their free time? A multi-player option is also available, but I found that the feature which added the most replayability to the game is the InfoMETER option, which allowed you to download current weather options into the game. Feel stupid? Well there’s a storm brewin’ on the shore of Cuba, let’s giddy up! A multi-player option is also available. It allows you to fly in a sky cluttered with other pilots, which is pretty cool.

However, in finality, I wouldn’t recommend buying this game. If you want a crappy simulator, buy the original Fly! Now maybe I’m a bit ruined on combat sims, so if you want to pretend you’re a pilot with not as many bugs, fly with Fly!2K. Then again, hallucinations are just as good, probably better, just too many bugs. It’s your choice.

Learning Curve: 1-3 hours

All scores are out of ten possible points.

Gameplay: 7

Graphics: 5

Replayability: 7

Multi-player: 6

Player Compatibility: 6

-Highs-

Realistic, Intricate Gameplay [Uninstaller functions properly-Ed.]

-Lows-

User Interface, Graphics, Manual, Being Similar to Fly!

-Bottom Line-

The suit who thought this one up should be fired for sheer incompetence. This is a horrible excuse for a sequel. The only reason it scored higher than the original is because of the bug fixes.
